Shockwave Therapy for Golfer's Elbow Near Iowa City

Same mechanism as tennis elbow, opposite side of the joint, and considerably less studied.

Direct answer

Golfer's Elbow: the short answer

Golfer's elbow (medial epicondylitis) is a tendon problem on the inside of the elbow, driven by repetitive gripping, wrist flexion and forearm rotation. It has less published shockwave research than tennis elbow, so conclusions should be drawn more cautiously.

Does this sound familiar?

  • Pain on the inner side of the elbow
  • Pain gripping, lifting or twisting
  • Discomfort with golf, throwing or racquet sports
  • Pain with pull-ups, rows or carrying
  • Tenderness over the inner elbow bony point

What is involved

The common flexor-pronator tendon attaches at the inner elbow. Repetitive gripping and wrist flexion load it, and over time it can develop the same kind of degenerative change seen on the outer side.

The evidence picture

Most high-quality shockwave tendon research has focused on the lateral (outer) elbow, plantar fascia, Achilles and shoulder. Medial elbow evidence is thinner. That does not mean treatment is unreasonable — it means claims should be more measured.

Where it fits

Progressive loading of the wrist flexors and pronators, technique and equipment review, and load management come first. Whether shockwave therapy is appropriate depends on your diagnosis, your history and an in-person evaluation.

We do not publish treatment protocols, visit counts or outcome promises for this condition. Those depend on your evaluation at Total Health Chiropractic.

Questions

Golfer's Elbow: common questions

Is golfer's elbow treated the same way as tennis elbow?

The principles are similar — load management and progressive tendon loading — but the affected tendons and the aggravating movements differ, and the published shockwave evidence for the inner elbow is thinner than for the outer elbow.
